This platter blank is then marked for cutting so feature strips can be added. I use a centering ruller to determine where the cuts are going to be. One cut down the center and two angle cuts. I could make all the cuts straight bit that reminds me of a cutting board. To much cross grain cutting and the wood movement will tear the platter apart. A small angle will give the platter dramatic effect and the epoxy will hold the wood together. In this example the angle cuts are made 2" from the center at one end to 4 1/2" from center at the other end.
