This project was inspired by my many trips to Mt. Vernon. My favorite place at Mt. Vernon is the view of the Potomac river standing on the lawn behind the house. It makes me think of how that river must have impacted George Washington. The constant flow of water teaming with life and commerce.
As I looked at the shelf attached to the bowl I saw the current of the river. The cutout represents the eddies in that river, a calm place. The fish represents the opportunity the river provides to feed up and the "stick" behind the fish represents the tools we use to help harvest the fish. The ruby red eye of the fish represents the clarity with which George looked over this river and Mt Vernon.
I enjoyed working on this project and I am happy with my controbution to the project. I was inspired by the considerable efforts of everyone envolved.
